Good Evening Friends!
Today, first I will thank my recurring readers for the support and love they are showing to me. I have been receiving really warming and encouraging comments on blog and in person. You readers are my true motivation to write. Thank Yooouuu!!
As we go through these hottest days of summer, as an environmentalist, i want to share today on climate change.
Some Facts to know :
Dog Days - The hottest days of the earth are known as Dog Days.
Forest cover - We have lost 1/3rd of the forest cover to agricultural needs and other utilization. After ice age the forest cover was 6 Billion hectares of land which has been reduced to 4 Billion hectares by 2020. This was mainly lost at alarming rate in last 5 years from 2015 to 2020 in deforestation drives.
Greenhouse Gases - The gases mainly responsible for causing global warning and the shifts of weather patterns and rise in temperatures of the global ecosystem.
Carbon Footprint - The amount of carbon dioxide emission resulting from the activities of an individual or organization or community is called Carbon Footprint.
Carbon tax - It is the price the emitters of Green House gases/polluters must pay for causing the damage to the environment.
So, here the entire beating around the bush is for the GHG emissions that are causing our temperatures to rise and weather patterns to be disturbed. If i put it up in very simple words than i would say that the main culprit is the rise in the emissions of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) which is causing all the disturbances.
Here now the question rises, as an individual what can we do to play our part?
Well, we can. Much can we do, if we take up things seriously. On trivial basis also we can contribute to make a change. Here are some points that i would share.
1. Try reducing usage of Air conditioners, and increase the utilization of natural ventilation and illumination. I know it is tough in the temperature of 45 C but you can still try to sleep on terraces or open spaces at night to reduce the usage. This has 2 benefits again.
- The natural weather improves your physical and mental health. I am already doing this and it has positively benefited me in numerous ways.
- The reduction in usage of AC will reduce the formation of Heat Islands. Heat islands are those areas which has hot air trapped from the exhaust of AC or of any machinery. This in turn increases more temperature. You will observe hotter areas where exhausts of multiple Ac are placed in a row. These areas are Heat islands, and are commonly found in residential colonies and business complexes around us but we are much more negligent to these practice. Such patches of heat islands increase the temperatures of entire local area in a cumulatively.
2. Each of us can vow to plant a tree each year at least so that we can contribute something to recover the forest cover if not whole.
3. Reduce usage of electrical appliances wherever possible for energy conservation. like at home you can use Washing twice or thrice a week instead of daily. Family members can be encouraged to work together in same rooms so that less home appliances can be used. There are many more ways to do this, try by assessing your daily routine and it will reduce your and your family's carbon footprint in return.
4. Use of natural coolers like Grass blankets or increasing of indoor cooler plants to make room temperatures cooler. Sprinkling of water on and around them gives best results.
5. Use of Vedic Plasters - Here Cow dung is used to plaster walls and ceilings to reduce indoor temperatures, a common practice observed in Desert of Kutch. With white Mandala paint and mirror work these walls give magnificent heritage look to the property and also cools the temperatures. You can see the beauty and tidiness.

It is high time we think and act now to help recover the already done damage to our only home and environment so that at least we can inherit our Future Generations a livable planet.
So Friends, there is much more we can do together. Lets take the leap to make the change possible.
PS: I don't want this blog to be a monologue and so would invite you all to comment your views.
Lets contribute to reduce our Carbon footprint and make our Earth clean again!
Adios till we next meet.
